shoot for the stars

Happy Holidays everyone! Hope Santa and family/friends were good to you all! I scored some awesome gifts this year, but I have to say in my old age I enjoy hanging out with family and eating good food more than what I get. So cheesy I know, blah.

Lets start with the food spam, shall we?

Ohh yeah, everything HOMEMADE! YUM YUM!

Hot Special Today

Sorry the lack pf updates these past few months, its winter I don't like doing anything unless I really have to. Little to no costuming work has been done, I'm not very proud of that. I've also been slacking in my ever search for new employment, as some of you know I'm not the biggest fan of change. I'm also wicked bad at selling myself when it comes to my job and talent. Still hoping something is just fall into my lap, dreaming someone will see the loyal, hard working baker that I am.

Oh speaking of loyal, I can officially say that I put out a fire at work, yes there was a fire in one of the meat cases on the sales floor. I was alone Tuesday morning working at the store, I'm usually along for about an hour and a half (glorious alone time). My responsibilities also don't take me out of the kitchen to much in the morning( I also wear headphones and listen to music but only with one ear-bud in), but I making some notes on some items walking around the corner and BAM I'm staring at flames leaping out of the meat case at the front of the store and smoke has filled the entire front half of the store. The straight feeling of panic I am not stranger to it, I knew I needed to get a fire extinguisher fast though I couldn't remember where in the meat room it was located how ever the fire extinguisher in the kitchen is forever stained in my memory (mainly because I've always secretly wanted to use it). Sprinting to the kitchen I ripped it from the wall and ran to the flames, now I've held that extinguisher before and remember it being a lot heavy then it felt that morning, maybe my heart was just beating to fast. I pulled the pin and safety band off (for some reason I used a stupid amount of force thinking it was have been more difficult)  and squeezed the handle aiming the hose at the burning meat products. Now when you watch movies and see the characters use fire extinguishers there is this puff of white dust almost snow like, right? Well can you imagine my surprise when pink liquid sprayed? ( In hindsight -the fire was out but I was kinda disappointed that it wasn't that dramatic ending. Kinda bad right?!) Well with the fire out I tried to gather my wits and dial my boss on my cell phone (waking her up mind you, what an ass I am) she answered, she told me to call 911 and she'd call the store manager. I have never called 911  before, not even as a child or prank. As scared and nervous as I was I have never spoken so clearly to another human being. EVER. The answers to their questions just fell out of my mouth...I thought I was holding it together pretty well, I opened the doors to the store to let the smoke out and stayed alert. But when my co-worker, Mike walked calmly into the store with a dunkin' donuts coffee in his hand and cell phone in the other and said "Oh she wasn't joking there really was a fire." My whole body began to shake, I leaned on the pineapple stand, no Mike isn't a manager but he is normally the next person to come in after me every morning, it kinda makes me sick to think that he was in the parking lot, while I was battling a fire. You could see the smoke from the parking lot and all the doors were opened, its 5am in the morning, I never unlocked the doors when I'm by myself never mind leave them wide OPEN. He didn't get out of his car until my boss called him and asked him to go check on me. I just can't.

Six fire fighters, three police men, two electricians, one health inspector and four hours later we finally had the green light to open the doors for business. The fire fighters were impressed with my reaction time and clam demeanor, co-workers all day came up to me and congratulated me. What really got me was one of the owners (who's name is on the side of the building) showed up at 11am, the end of the shift, he didn't even know I was the one who saved the day, when one of the managers finally did tell him, he thanked me and gave me a high five.

Now let me get something off my chest.

The people that own the company are never there, only during the holiday season do they show their faces and it is only for a few hours, years ago it was completely different story, all three were there being helpful to their employees, all of us had a personal connection to them, they talked to us about our families, life, dreams, ideas they showed us they were willing to work hard for their business.... but years later people's standards change of how they treat people and how they make money. If this fire had happened back then I would have been fine with a thank you, smile and a high five. But it didn't. I happened Tuesday, December 16th 2014. After sevens years of being lied to, treated like a piece of furniture, having my hours slashed in half, being told that my standards of cleaning are to high, constantly battling about freshness of our products, questioning if any of our higher ups have a shred of humanity left in them.

I should have let it burn.

But I did the right thing, and that is how I get to sleep at night. Knowing that I will always do the right thing and no matter I many times this company tries, I will not give in.

This whole thing sounds, ridiculous. I know what your thinking too, "Why don't you just quit and save yourself/" and your right I should quit, I should have quit five years ago. But I can not survive financial right now without a stead source of income, so until then I'm stuck.

Sorry this was supposed to be an update and a funny story but turned into a rant.
Happy Holidays.
Peace and Safe everyone!

Rhode Island Comic Con 2014

Here is the thing about RI-Comic Con, I had a good time but it was very draining, physically and emotionally. Yes, we where PACKED into that dealers room like fish in a barrel but I got to see some old friends and awesome art work. I felt bad for the vendors when they had to stop letting new people into the dealers room, mainly because if you don't have fresh faces your not gonna sell anything. I hate the fact the RI- Comic Con got so big, so fast and yet first all the  media they put out they were saying that they were sorry, but now its "Go big or go home". I say Fuck that, book another hall if you want to over sell on your tickets. I've been going to Cons since 2007 and only this year, Boston Comic Con- a.k.a Line Con was a total wash and now part of RI Comic Con- a.k.a. Rain Con was right up there.

I didn't find one photo of us as Mary and Edward and I am super disappointed about that.

Fingers crossed that SuperMegaFest will be better.

Cheers

Wall of Ice

Hey everyone! So again sorry about not updating that enough, my plan each year is to post more then the last and I think I''m on point with this year. That is if I make time to post! Its that time of year again were everything goes by wicked fast thanks to the holidays! But I think I have some updates from RI-Comic Con. I think I'll make a separate rant about that one (not really that bad of a rant).

So here are some photos of my Jedi - Siri Tachi. Totally got to hang out with some old friends from the NEG 501st, I got to see all our couple costuming friends which is awesome! Happens like once a year, maybe twice. lol
