A new beginning

I have had this blog for a few years now and it went from being my personal blog to my hobby/portfolio for work. If I were to go back and read some of the older posts about my 'job' it will most likely not be good. The one good thing I can say is that my fellow coworkers are the ones I will miss, I had been working for this company for just shy of ten years. People have come and gone but I've ended up many friends for life through this company.  If you haven't picked up on it yet, I have quit.
I quit for many reasons and it is a great thing that I can close this chapter in my life but still there is that cold, bone crushing fear of what now?
Keeping my head up high and brush the dust off my resume. I am very thankful for my husband, family and friends. They understand why this was needed and why I feel the conflicted emotions that I have. I do believe one friend put it best "its like getting out of an abusive relationship, you think you've done something wrong when in reality you've done the best thing in your life."
She is right. Its been not even a week and I feel better. Still nervous on the idea I do not have income coming in right now. BUT that is why the job hunt is so important.
This as been a long time coming. Finally.

On a lighter note the support I've been getting is hard to must into words. And not just from friends and family but coworkers (ex coworkers now) even people who have left the company years ago are finding out and are so happy for me.

I am happy that I got the opportunity to learn, I'd tell my girls all the time, "Its not a mistake IF you learn something from it."  I feel that I have learned a lot.

So I promise there will be cake updates and costume updates too!

Hey everyone

Hey everyone so I haven't posted in a long time and I do have a lot of things to update and all the things I tell you about. First off we are planning on going to some local conventions and the up-and-coming months I know Boston Comic Con is a big one though we're only going up for the day and then Rhode Island Comic Con is in that lineup there are few other ones that will be local or smaller cons.

We did more engagement photos at the Hammonds Castle in Rochester we debut King Alistair from Inquisition and I wear the warden. Rhonda Hurley took those photos and wanting all of them but the ones that we have seen are pretty cool.

I've got a few cakes that need to be updated And Pastry section we haven't had a lot of cakes this year at the bakery but we had a few and I also need to make my fiance's birthday cake which is going to be completely towards him, have you ever heard of Good Mythical Morning. It's a YouTube channel and it is absolutely f****** fantastic. It's a funny and educational. Sometimes but two best friends doing stupid s***. Highly recommended for a pick me up in the morning they always manage to make me smile

Sorry for such a long-winded update but I really haven't been posting it I've been meaning to just haven't found the time. The last 3 days I've been really sick and prepping the bakery for my vacation which it's day one and I've already gotten through text messages nothing too crazy but still. Michael is kind of done now it's still running the course my nose is still stuffy butt I feel much better

I slept until 10:30 today that was pretty impressive not bad for day 1 of vacation. But I do have to run some errands so I should probably get dressed make myself look like a human being instead of a troll under a bridge.

May the Force be with you.

My father past away yesterday. We had Sunday dinner with my parents, aunt, uncle, my brother and his girlfriend. Every Sunday we have family dinner but this time we were celebrating my bothers 28th birthday. It was fun, my dad has some health problems and get dizzy when he sits up for all short periods of time, so when he is at family dinner its not for a long time, but we do all hang out in the living room and watch bad TV or play card games. Sunday night was like any other Sunday night. The boyfriend and I went out with a couple of friends that night to get drinks, got home around midnight.

I woke up to a call from my sister at 2:43am. She sounded panicked and her voice was wet as she told me that I didn't to get to the hospital now something had happened to dad. And the first thing that runs through my head is that I have to work this morning, unfortunately I said it out loud and my sister yelled at me and said just call out. So I send my boss a text message, explaining myself and that I would call back later with more information.

We get to the hospital, I've never been to one before. I can see a ton of people waiting in the sitting area, its 3 in the morning. My boyfriend tells the woman at the desk who we are looking for because at this point my throat is just closed. The woman takes us through these doors and halls, I felt like I was in a maze, until we get to this hallway and I see my mum standing against a wall crying, my sister is opposite of her hugging her husband sobbing.  I hug my mom and asked what is going on? but I don't get a response just the tightest hug ever. The doctor comes and pulls my mum away with paperwork she needed to fill out and I turn to my sister and wrap my arms around her and my brother-in-law and we sob together, at some point my brother and my cousin (he is my brother from another mother) join us from a small room and everyone is hugging.

I've never felt so sick in my life and it came in waves. Nothing felt real yesterday, like a bad dream that your still waiting to wake up from. We stayed at the hospital till 5:55am, we laughed, we cried, and we laughed again. The family went back to my parents home and tried to progress what was going on.

My boyfriend and I finally left around 6:45ish after my mother told us to get some sleep and my sister threatened to kill me if I went into work. So we slept for a few hours and than went back to my parent's house. Friends and family where there, everyone had bought food and sweets. It was a big party, like Christmas eve all over again.

I'm not sure if typing all this out has made me feel any better, but if you asked me to talk about it I probably couldn't, my throat gets all tight when I try and it just turns ugly from there.

My dad is the person who always encouraged me (and everyone) to believe in themselves, that it was okay to be strange and different from the rest. He is my inspiration when I'm drawing, painting, writing and sewing. When it came to costumes, he loved the idea that we put the time and effort into making them. He is a strange old man, but his heart was huge.

My dad always told us that we were the best thing he ever made in this world, and that he didn't even have much to do this that, our mum did most of the work. May the force be with you Dad.

The Great Mother

Okay so I posted a short story here a long time ago from one of our D&D campaigns and it has been a really long time since I typed up another one. BUT today (when I should have been working) I started to think about last night D&D session and how it could have gone a bit different. I am not the world's best role player and I do try and stay in character but sometimes its hard. ( especially with the goof balls I play with). So I started typing it out this morning, the way in my head it should have played out.

And I'm not 100% sure on how the story is going to play out with these characters, I don't even know if this would ever happen but this is what I wanted to happen and sorry Slade (our DM or game master) if this is left field and doesn't work with the story line but last night got my brain going and I needed to write it out.

So here it is and be nice, I read for me and me alone. Sorry if there are grammar issues its been awhile.
---------
Hadrogh watched as Odolan was dragged away by Svartal, the elk gently bite into the overgrown Orc's backplate and followed the others as he pulled his sleeping master along. The drow shook his head slightly with a small smile gracing his chapped, worry bitten lips as he watched the righteous filled Odolan sleeping peaceful slipped past thru the tree barrier and out of sight.
"Great Mother, you must forgive him, Odolan speaks loudly and often but his heart is in the right place. He and Svartal have proven themselves more than once in battle that they are here for the greater good. " The young drow started as he turned back the council of druids.
The small ancient, weathered woman turned her head to regard the drow who still stood in front of them.  Her small, aged hands gripped her living staff as if to reassure that it was still there.
"As we said before, Young Hadrogh, your companions are strange. But you are the children of destiny, it is not my place to question that. " Her voice rang  raspy but clear for a person of her age, as if with some hidden strength. "You have grown so much since the last I saw you, tell me more of this land you visited." She motioned for him to step closer. He nodded, not expecting to get told to stay and took only three steps closer to the most powerful druids in the realm.
"In all my life I had never thought that I, a mere ranger would travel to another plain. I had often wondered what it would be like, what it would feel like. But... I did not even realize it happened. The last thing I remember was being in just outside of camp, it was late. Mirabelle and I were settling in for the night," he paused as Mirabelle headbutted him as the mention of her name and began to purr loudly. "The next thing I know, I'm waking up in a room with Eadou,Odolan, Jarall and an elk."  The great mother smiled as the pair that stood in front of her.
"Traveling through plains feels different for everyone, whom ever sent you to that land clearly didn't want you to hesitate. "
"In this Grove you are sending us, will I find this being who sent me to Ebarron?" He asked with hope in his red eyes.
"I cannot say what or whom we will encounter while you are there but what you find will keep you on the right path, the path of ending all this bloodshed."  As she spoke some of the other council member began to speak among themselves.  Hadrogh nodded and looked down at the forest floor.
"Great mother, you said that you were there when I was born....then you can tell me that my mother is who everyone has always told me she is. " he asked still staring at the grass and leaves on the ground, his voice almost a whisper. The great mother shifted slightly in her chair and a frown formed on her withered face.
"You doubt your origins Hadrogh? Even after these past three months?
His head snapped up. "I-I've had never met another person like me before this at least. I've been told since I was little that I was the son of Mielikki. This is the first time I've ever felt like that was true. "
"Child, never doubt that Mielikki is not with you, she is the strength that  helps your arrows fly true. Just because she doesn’t not present herself to you, does not mean she has abandoned you." She pauses a moment and begins to stand using her staff for support. Taking well measured steps towards Hadrogh, who is staring nervously at her. The other druids stop talking as they to watch the great mother make her way to the young drow. The grass around her feet seems to be giving new life each time her feet touch the ground. "She watches over all those who are devoted to her," the air within the circle of trees becomes warm and Hadrogh feels as though he is being surrounded by positive energy, a feeling almost as a lovely embrace. The great mother reaches up with a withered hand and cups Hadrogh's cheek, her touch is warm and soft disbit her weathered looking hands.  "She cares for all her children, never forget that." As she speaks her voice becomes that of a much younger woman and her aged eyes seem to flicker with pride as she stares at Hadrogh.
The drow was overwhelmed with emotion all at once, he didn't have the strength to speak. He continued to stare down at the great mother standing before him, with watery eyes. Mirabelle began to  purr loudly.  A bright smile was all he can manage as she withdraws her hand and the warmth slowly faded away.
"Now, you and your companions must be prepare yourselves for this journey, this task set in front of you. We will call for you in the morning" Her voice is a raspy as ever.  A few of the druids presume murmuring again.
"Yes, Great Mother," he nods. As he and Mirabelle turn away and begin walking towards the entrance way of the trees, he could still feel a small amount of that energy and relished in its embrace.  As they exited the trees, the opening soon closed with another tree taking its place.
Hadrogh made his way over to Cas and the others, to see Odolan was awake and making friends (loudly) with the halfings of the Grinning Pony mercenaries group. He grinned as Jarall was aruging with "fock yu" and Eadou leaning on his hammer as if bored out of lizard skull.
Cas turned to Hadrogh and clasped him on the shoulder, "Brother! You have to tell me about your adventures before you disappear again!" He grinned and laughed. Hadrogh grinned back and returned the friendly gesture with his own.
"Oh course, but first food and drink."

happy thoughts

Hey everyone sorry I haven't posted in a while. I was planning on doing all these costs too many things over my vacation but never really got the chance to do them haha. It seems a bit off a little more that I could chew but I do plan on doing another photo shoot with my crew warden sometime this week and I hope the weather holds up though we are expected to have some thunderstorms and heavy rain showers over the next couple days. So fingers crossed. I need a new shield and I have a sword but I know I've said before that I wanted to make a foam sword or something that was more con friendly than just Real Steel. I did buy the thin foam core from the dollar store and I was playing around with that to make a sword didn't turn out the way I expected it to so I might have to watch a few more tutorials on that. I did however start another costume even though I still have I think three more waiting in the wind. I've seen some really cool fan art for Sauron an I was thinking about doing one of those costumes. Which involves some scale mail and we all know how much I love making scale mail for costume. Thank God for soda cans. So on that note I'll leave you with a little taste of some other costume probably more Kiddway.

Oh and on that note a big happy birthday to my lovely boyfriend. Today we spent his birthday with his family and had a wonderful time in South Hadley Massachusetts it was a good time I can't wait to see them all again.

Attack on coffee

Hello there everyone! So my vacation is over and I did get most of what I wanted to do done, but not all (not wonder woman, yeah know?) Kinda glad to be back at work, near the end of the week I was getting a bit bored of being home all day long. Right? who wants to go back to work? Well this girl. hahaha.

summer cupcakes

CUPCAKESS

Right so there other night my sister asked me to join her for a paint the pint night, now I've heard of this things but I've never gone to one (also the paint and wine thing with the canvas). Yeah so I had no idea what we were going to be doing and it turned out to be kinda fun. Well I mean more of the it was my sister and I drinking and being total dorks at the bar (making friends with the bartenders). There was not direction when it came to the painting of the glass, just whatever you what to do. Which is awful when one: you have to many ideas because your an artist and two: for people who have never drawn before in their lives. So that was my issue with that but it was a much needed sister time.

My hair cut has been a huge success which is a great ego boost! Oh and the I didn't know if anyone of you have picked up on it or not buuut I choose all my titles of posts from the songs I am listening to currently. Right now I have on something from YouTube - Attack on Titan Original soundtrack and non of the tracks from titles BUT I am also drinking coffee, so there yeah go. Enjoy that.

I couldn't be prouder of my big brother! He graduated last Sunday from URI and it was awesome! So happy, we also got to hang out with his awesome girlfriend! (She is so pretty, I really don't know what she sees in that goofy bird <3).

this

My friends and I started cosplaying/costuming as early as 2006, since in high school and it was nothing big, capes, cloaks maybe a skirt. Our first convention was Anime Boston and it was a blast we made our own costumes, one of parents drove us and got a hotel room it was great. And as the years went by we continued to create costumes, bigger and better. Novices to this day and proud of it, this is a hobby were I can be as creative as I want to be, I can do anything, be anyone (male/female doesn't matter to me).

I truly enjoy finding a character that I can relate to or even better find strength in that character, I wanna be more like them. My family (da, mum, sister and brother) thinks its wonderful and I couldn't be any luckier when it comes to that. But when other members of my family see and make comments on Facebook I just get mixed feelings. It just puts me off. questioning if I should bother posting things to Facebook at all, even tho I have cosplay friends on there.

They all post picture of their hobbies, why can't I? And what gives you the right to make a questionable comment about my hobby. If you don't like me dressed as a man then unfollow me Facebook. If it makes you that uncomfortable then maybe you don't deserve to see my weird little world.

I know not everyone is accepting of some of the odd things I do, but I'm not hurting anyone and it has nothing to do with them I was not put on this earth to impress you.

Yeah I don't have the best job and  I don't make that much money but I'm happy. Isn't that enough? Shouldn't that be enough?

They says its waste of money. Okay costuming for me is like crafting if I can make it for cheap I will and you know what hobbies are expensive, regardless of what it is. Sports?Cars?Reading?Drawing? hell at least I've not doing drugs.

sorry just needed to rant ....  I need a drink.,,, fuck.

SnowStorm

I am the worst at keeping this blog updated and I am so sorry for that. During the winter months I tend to disappear from everything, mainly because I am freezing. Plus all this snow that Rhode Island is getting doesn't help when I need to leave me house. I do apologize to everyone I might have offended with my lack of being here.

No updates on costumes, my sewing room is an ice box right now, even with the space heaters on. I did make this really cool snow dragon the other day and got laughed at by two teenagers. But that is alright, I was proud of my dragon.

Yeah I wanted to color it but the next day we had another snow storm and now she is gone. But we can always rebuild! Work has been keeping me busy and filled with sweets, tho I am still looking for a new and/or another part time job.

So yeah way to much snow this year. and we have another foot coming this Saturday.

Hot Special Today

Sorry the lack pf updates these past few months, its winter I don't like doing anything unless I really have to. Little to no costuming work has been done, I'm not very proud of that. I've also been slacking in my ever search for new employment, as some of you know I'm not the biggest fan of change. I'm also wicked bad at selling myself when it comes to my job and talent. Still hoping something is just fall into my lap, dreaming someone will see the loyal, hard working baker that I am.

Oh speaking of loyal, I can officially say that I put out a fire at work, yes there was a fire in one of the meat cases on the sales floor. I was alone Tuesday morning working at the store, I'm usually along for about an hour and a half (glorious alone time). My responsibilities also don't take me out of the kitchen to much in the morning( I also wear headphones and listen to music but only with one ear-bud in), but I making some notes on some items walking around the corner and BAM I'm staring at flames leaping out of the meat case at the front of the store and smoke has filled the entire front half of the store. The straight feeling of panic I am not stranger to it, I knew I needed to get a fire extinguisher fast though I couldn't remember where in the meat room it was located how ever the fire extinguisher in the kitchen is forever stained in my memory (mainly because I've always secretly wanted to use it). Sprinting to the kitchen I ripped it from the wall and ran to the flames, now I've held that extinguisher before and remember it being a lot heavy then it felt that morning, maybe my heart was just beating to fast. I pulled the pin and safety band off (for some reason I used a stupid amount of force thinking it was have been more difficult)  and squeezed the handle aiming the hose at the burning meat products. Now when you watch movies and see the characters use fire extinguishers there is this puff of white dust almost snow like, right? Well can you imagine my surprise when pink liquid sprayed? ( In hindsight -the fire was out but I was kinda disappointed that it wasn't that dramatic ending. Kinda bad right?!) Well with the fire out I tried to gather my wits and dial my boss on my cell phone (waking her up mind you, what an ass I am) she answered, she told me to call 911 and she'd call the store manager. I have never called 911  before, not even as a child or prank. As scared and nervous as I was I have never spoken so clearly to another human being. EVER. The answers to their questions just fell out of my mouth...I thought I was holding it together pretty well, I opened the doors to the store to let the smoke out and stayed alert. But when my co-worker, Mike walked calmly into the store with a dunkin' donuts coffee in his hand and cell phone in the other and said "Oh she wasn't joking there really was a fire." My whole body began to shake, I leaned on the pineapple stand, no Mike isn't a manager but he is normally the next person to come in after me every morning, it kinda makes me sick to think that he was in the parking lot, while I was battling a fire. You could see the smoke from the parking lot and all the doors were opened, its 5am in the morning, I never unlocked the doors when I'm by myself never mind leave them wide OPEN. He didn't get out of his car until my boss called him and asked him to go check on me. I just can't.

Six fire fighters, three police men, two electricians, one health inspector and four hours later we finally had the green light to open the doors for business. The fire fighters were impressed with my reaction time and clam demeanor, co-workers all day came up to me and congratulated me. What really got me was one of the owners (who's name is on the side of the building) showed up at 11am, the end of the shift, he didn't even know I was the one who saved the day, when one of the managers finally did tell him, he thanked me and gave me a high five.

Now let me get something off my chest.

The people that own the company are never there, only during the holiday season do they show their faces and it is only for a few hours, years ago it was completely different story, all three were there being helpful to their employees, all of us had a personal connection to them, they talked to us about our families, life, dreams, ideas they showed us they were willing to work hard for their business.... but years later people's standards change of how they treat people and how they make money. If this fire had happened back then I would have been fine with a thank you, smile and a high five. But it didn't. I happened Tuesday, December 16th 2014. After sevens years of being lied to, treated like a piece of furniture, having my hours slashed in half, being told that my standards of cleaning are to high, constantly battling about freshness of our products, questioning if any of our higher ups have a shred of humanity left in them.

I should have let it burn.

But I did the right thing, and that is how I get to sleep at night. Knowing that I will always do the right thing and no matter I many times this company tries, I will not give in.

This whole thing sounds, ridiculous. I know what your thinking too, "Why don't you just quit and save yourself/" and your right I should quit, I should have quit five years ago. But I can not survive financial right now without a stead source of income, so until then I'm stuck.

Sorry this was supposed to be an update and a funny story but turned into a rant.
Happy Holidays.
Peace and Safe everyone!
